Raw and Real — The Why Store Live Album

In an era where pitch correction and overproduced tracks can suck the life out of music, we take a different approach. The Why Store live album is all about keeping it real — just like our shows.

We recorded Live at the Slippery Noodle with that mindset. We didn’t spend months polishing and perfecting it. We captured the moment—warts and all—because that’s what our music is. It’s raw, it’s human, and it connects.

Even on our latest live album, Live at the Slippery Noodle, we decided not to keep those tracks in production too long. Putting out a live album “with a couple of warts on it”, according to Chris Shaffer – front man of The Why Store, lets the fans connect with the album which transfers over when they see us live.

Don’t get us wrong, we still want to mix the best sound with today’s modern tech … just not to a point where fake harmonizations hide the funky sound we’re after.

Recording at the Slippery Noodle

The Slippery Noodle is a legend in its own right — a place where music breathes history. It felt right to record there. We wanted fans to feel like they were in the room with us. When you hear the crowd, the occasional imperfection, or the stretch of a jam — you know it’s real.

That’s what The Why Store live album gives you: the truth. The same energy we bring to every stage, captured so you can feel it wherever you are.

Why Live Music Matters

Perfect studio albums are great — but there’s something about live music that hits different. You can hear the crowd feeding us energy. You can hear us taking risks, stretching a song because we’re feeling it. That’s what makes The Why Store live music special.

Our fans get it. They’ve told us how much they appreciate hearing those little imperfections because it feels like being right there with us. And that’s what we want — to bring you into the moment.

“People who take more than a few takes [when recording new] songs on an album need to know technically the song may get better, but spiritually further from the  source.”
